Binta’s debut track on new label Mind Of A Genius is the fantastic ‘Do You Wanna’. Her shimmering voice sits delicately above a mosaic of electronic textures that craft a beat that manages to be at once dancefloor-ready and timbrally interesting. “Do you wanna is ultimately just a cute question you have when you like someone,” she says. “You know you don’t want to get into anything serious but at the same time, you don’t want to stay in this awkward stage. like why stay here on earth when what we feel for each other is like we're flying through space.” Her brand of left-pop is inspired by her Gambian roots and London upbringing, and when she was an independent artist, her debut EP hit the top 10 in the Gambian charts. -Dan Peeke.
